Ice Cream — The Perfect Summer Treat for Pups & People

National Ice Cream Day is July 19th, but here at Properly Posh Pets, we don’t need a special holiday to celebrate ice cream – a perfect addition to any kind of party.

My dog and I are planning a Baseball Barkday Party to celebrate the fact that our favorite baseball team has a winning record, and we have decided to build the theme of our party around his favorite treat – ice cream.

Baseball & Ice Cream at Bark in the Park

Play Ball are the best words in the English language to baseball fans – and DOGS!

Take me out to the ballgame will take on a whole new meaning for us when our favorite minor league baseball team, the Sea Dogs, will invite dogs who are fans to come to their Bark in the Park game.  My dog and I are beyond excited about getting to see our first Sea Dogs game – together and in person.  And just how great is the name of the team and a dog mascot named Slugger!

The Sea Dog Biscuit is a unique treat served at the ballpark, and we plan to recreate it at home for our Baseball Barkday Party.  Vanilla ice cream is sandwiched between two chocolate chip cookies.  It will be perfect for the Pup Parents at our party, but make sure you don’t share the chocolate chip cookies with your pups.  We will substitute dog cookies that are safe for our pup to eat when we make our pup-friendly Sea Dog biscuits for our party.

The Classic Cocktail – The Peanut Butter Ice Cream Cup

Creating the Classic Cocktail for this party was so much fun.  We combined two of our favorite flavors – peanut butter and chocolate to come up with the Peanut Butter Ice Cream Cup Cocktail

Ingredients
  • 1 ounce coffee liqueur
  • ½ ounce vodka
  • 1 ounce chocolate syrup
  • 1 teaspoon of peanut butter
  • 9 ounces of vanilla ice cream (about 3 scoops)
Directions
  • Add the coffee liqueur, vodka, and chocolate syrup to a blender.
  • Add 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream.
  • Blend on low speed.
  • When it becomes smooth, add the peanut butter.
  • Pour into a 12-ounce glass.
  • Garnish with whipped cream and toppings, such as mini-chocolate chips and Reese’s Pieces.

Mocktail Peanut Butter Ice Cream Cup

You can make this ice cream drink without the alcohol to create the Mocktail Peanut Butter Ice Cream Cup.

The Pup Treat – Peanut Butter Banana Ice Cream

This delicious ice cream treat for dogs will be perfect for our party, but it is ok to spoil your dog for no good reason and treat him to a batch pre-party – just to make sure the recipe has been taste tested by your pup.

Ingredients
  • 4 tablespoons of peanut butter
  • 2 bananas
  • 4 tablespoons of plain yogurt
Directions
  • Cut the bananas into small pieces and freeze for at least 3 hours.
  • Put the frozen banana, peanut butter, and yogurt in a blender or food processor and mix until smooth.
  • Garnish with a sprinkle of dog cookies or treats.

My Dog – The MVP of My Life

No need to count votes in my house about who is the MVP of our daily life.  My dog is most definitely the Most Valuable Pup with a solid record of proving himself to be indispensable in every way – for the good times and the challenging times.

I never pass up a chance to be with my dog – especially when we are doing the things we both love.

Eating ice cream – and watching baseball.
