My Westie, Beckham, and I sat down last weekend to start our holiday gift lists for his pup friends and my dog-lover friends.  Inspiration came quickly when I spied my brand-new game of Westie-Opoly on the bookshelf! What a perfect idea, especially if we can find versions of the game with a variety of breeds.

Success came quickly as we first found “Dog-Opoly” online at various stores along with several breed-specific versions of the game. We couldn’t wait to share the information we found with everyone who reads our Party Blog so you can get an early start on your holiday shopping for pet-loving family and friends.

DOG-OPOLY 

Dog-Opoly is a version of the game that includes several breeds of dogs including Beagles, Dachshunds, Golden Retrievers, and Yorkies. The game comes with “deeds” that include lots of information about the various breeds and adorable game pieces including a cat, a fire hydrant, a dog dish, a T-bone steak, a mail carrier, and a flea.

There is also a very special version of the game called “Mutt-Opoly” – as the game’s description says, “No purebreds allowed!” This version celebrates the world’s “most popular dog” making the brilliant point that why settle for just one breed of dog when you can have two or more breeds rolled into one! WESTIE-OPOLY

Beckham and I were excited to find that there are also several breed-specific versions of the game including the Westie-Opoly version we have. The game’s description of a “Westie” was spot-on:

With BIG personality, the West Highland White Terrier is a bold and energetic little dog with absolutely no idea of its true size! More commonly called the “Westie,” the breed is known for its friendly, strong-willed character and remarkably bright white coat. Westies were bred in Scotland and used to seek and dig out foxes and badgers. They love their two-legged companions and are generally willing to please them… as long as they think it’s a good idea! To be fair, this is a dog bred for tenacity and if dealt with firmly and lovingly, a Westie makes an affectionate addition to any family.

The company who designs and sells the games is called Late for the Sky, and their website has the games available with several breed-specific versions. We also found some versions of the game at other stores including Amazon, Macy’s, and Michaels in case you want to price compare.

The Classic Cocktail: The Greyhound 

We’ve already started planning a Dog-Opoly Party, of course, with the perfect Classic Cocktail ideas. A party with board games is always more fun with cocktails, and we’ve found some pawsome ideas for cocktails named after dogs. Here is the recipe for a quintessential Classic Cocktail — “The Greyhound”. 

Ingredients

• 2 ounces vodka or gin
• 4 ounces grapefruit juice
• 1 teaspoon simple syrup

Directions

• Add 3-4 ice cubes to a cocktail shaker.
• Add 2 ounces of vodka or gin.
• Add 4 ounces of grapefruit juice.
• Add 1 tsp of simple syrup.
• Shake well and pour into martini or cocktail glass.

Planning a Dog-Inspired Game Night with DOG-OPOLY

We’ve come up with a fun idea for a future blog post on planning a Party Game Night with your friends and their pups that we think will be perfect for the winter months that are coming soon. What could be more fun than snuggling up by the fire with our Pups, our Pup Parent friends, and lots of fabulous food and drink – and a hotly contested game of Dog-Opoly.

The challenge is on – will you be Best in Show or hanging out by the fire hydrant?  Will you win first place in the Obedience class or get fleas? Or worst of all be sent to the Kennel!
