Celebrate National Dog Mom Day — Let’s Plan a Party!

Did you know that National Dog Mom Day is May 8th?  That is the day when you have a chance to celebrate being a proud and amazing Dog Mom.  What better way to do that then to invite your fellow Dog Moms to share the fun of a party so you can celebrate the special bond between Dogs and their Moms. 

Dogs play so many roles in our lives.  They are our best friend, our snuggle-buddy, our roommate.  They listen when no one else will, and they instinctively know how to make us smile just when we need that smile the most. 

The bond is unbreakable – and unmatchable.  And hanging out with my dog is pretty much the most fun thing I can think of doing, especially on a day that is totally devoted to our special relationship.

 

Here at Properly Posh Pets, we think parties are important— and fun!  We love setting  aside time to create special moments that become lasting memories in our lives.  A party to acknowledge the unique bond between a dog and his Mom is a gift you give to your pup – and yourself. 

And we love to give parties, so here is another really great idea for planning a party with your Dog Mom Best Friends! 

WHAT ARE THE KEY ELEMENTS TO YOUR “DOG MOM” PARTY? 

Invite a small group of your Dog Mom Best Friends to come for a deep dive catchup with Cocktails, Party Gifts, and magical PupCakes and Cupcakes.   

Keep the party simple, but elegant, and focus on things that Dog Moms really love. 

THE COCKTAIL 

A Classic Cocktail is a must for this party – one that is colorful and delicious. 

Lucky for us National Cosmo Day is May 8th so serving our fellow Dog Moms Cosmopolitans would be perfect. 

Here is the recipe for the Classic Cosmopolitan Cocktail, but we also think it is great fun to create variations on the Classic Cocktails that we serve at all of our Properly Posh Parties.  In our next Party Blog, we give you the details for several fun ways to mix it up with Cosmos including a “Skinny Cosmo” and a Cosmo Mocktail. 

Classic Cosmopolitan Cocktail 

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ ounces vodka
  • 1 ounce triple sec (e.g., Cointreau)
  • 1 ounce cranberry juice
  • ½ ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
  • Orange peel or lime wedge for garnish 

Directions

  • Combine vodka, triple sec, cranberry juice, and lime in a cocktail shaker. Add ice, cover, and shake until chilled.  Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
  • Garnish with orange peel or lime wedge.

How cute would it be to find a pretty glass swizzle stick with a heart on the end as a party gift!  We found really cute heart swizzle sticks.

PUPCAKES & CUPCAKES

Julia Child famously said, “A party without cake is just a meeting.” 

Parties are way more fun than meetings, so it’s essential to have delicious PupCakes for the Pups and scrumptious CupCakes for the Dog Moms.

Cake and cocktails – sounds like the perfect menu to me for a group of best friends who just want to relax and gossip with their best four-legged buddies.

“DOG MOM” PARTY FAVOR BAGS 

Dogs love treats and so do Dog Moms!  Since we are planning a small, intimate party, we decided to splurge on our party favor bags.  Best Dogs Ever and Best Dog Moms Ever deserve fabulous party swag.

Put together a Classic Cocktail mini gift package so your Dog Mom guests can create a Cosmo at home.  All you need is a miniature bottle of vodka and a miniature bottle of Cointreau, a small bottle of cranberry juice, and a lime, which you can put in a plastic bag tied with a festive ribbon.  Handwrite the recipe for the Classic Cosmopolitan Cocktail on a colored cardstock card attached to the ribbon on the cocktail package.

To fill your Dog Mom party favor bags, we picked some perfect gifts for your Dog Mom friends and their Dogs: 

My dog always thinks a crinkly bag is full of treats for him, so you better plan on creating a similar gift for the Dogs with the treats they love!  Heart-shaped dog treats would be perfect.  You can buy these treats and repackage them or, if you are feeling ambitious, then try Beckham’s Bacon Burger Bites recipe. 

Bacon Burger Bites – Gourmet Dog Treat 

Ingredients 

  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup crumbled cooked hamburger
  • 3 tablespoons bacon fat
  • 4-6 slices bacon, well cooked and crumbled
  • 1 large egg
  • 4 cups flour
  • ⅓ cup nonfat dry milk
  • ¾ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ cup warm water

Directions 

  • Mix the first five ingredients until well combined. Stir in the flour, dry milk, and baking powder.
  • Add the warm water slowly up to ½ cup until a ball of dough forms. The dough will be sticky.
  • Knead the dough until all the ingredients are well mixed. Put the ball of dough on a floured surface and flatten with your hands and turn over to flour both sides.  Roll out the dough on the floured surface to ¼” thickness.
  • Using a mini cookie cutter, cut into pet treat shapes.
  • Bake at 350° for 15 minutes on a greased or non-stick cookie sheet.
  • Cool on a baking rack and store in the refrigerator.

Recipe makes 6 dozen treats.
