Dogs in sunglasses always make me smile. 

For the dog who wants to get that cool summer look with minimal effort – put on a pair of fabulous sunglasses.  My Westie hates party hats, but he rocks wearing a pair of shades and is well on his way to assembling an enviable collection of doggy goggles.

Cats look cool even without a pair of sunglasses, but if you can convince your cat to wear them, you will get some amazingly great Instagram pictures.

 

The Classic Cocktail – The Mojito

If Doggy Sunglasses are the pinnacle of cool for your pup, then you need to celebrate his style with a cool Classic Cocktail – the Mojito – and celebrate National Rum Day, which is August 16^th.  This is a recipe for one drink, but if your friends are coming over with their pups, make a pitcher!

Ingredients

• 10 fresh mint leaves
• ½ lime, cut into 4 wedges
• 2 tablespoons white sugar
• 1 cup ice cubes
• 1 ½ ounces white rum
• ½ cup club soda

Directions

• Place mint leaves and 1 lime wedge into a sturdy glass.
• Use a muddler to crush the mint and lime to release the mint oils and lime juice.
• Add 2 more lime wedges and the sugar, and muddle again to release the lime juice.
• Do not strain the mixture.
• Fill the glass almost to the top with ice.
• Pour the rum over the ice, and fill the glass with the club soda.
• Stir, taste, and add more sugar if needed.
• Garnish with the remaining lime wedge.

Should Your Dog Wear Sunglasses?

People wear sunglasses for eye protection and to make a fashion statement. Your dog will definitely look fashionable with sunglasses, but the protection for their eyes from sunlight, sand, and dust can be a good thing too – especially if you have one of those dogs who loves riding in a car with their head out the window (and strapped into the car seat, please!)

 

 

Some dogs will happily wear sunglasses, while others may find them to be uncomfortable, so be sensitive to your dog’s reaction to wearing them.  Most dogs will probably need to be trained to wear them.

The most popular dog sunglasses are Doggles, which are dog-specific sunglasses that are anti-fog and offer UV protection and shatterproof lenses. They are goggle-style glasses with straps that have a snug fit, but you should make sure they are comfortable on your dog and fit properly.  You should also make sure that your pup can easily eat and drink when wearing them.

Party Hat – or Cool Sunglasses?

My Westie refuses to put any kind of hat on his head including the fabulous party hats that Properly Posh Pets sells.  He hates party hats so much that he designed a special bandana with “Please don’t make me wear the party hat”!

 

 

But I have found the perfect accessory for him – doggy sunglasses.  No doubt about it, when we head for the beach or the park, we find his sunglasses before his leash and never leave home without them.
