Cats Like Parties Too! Planning a Meowday Party!

CATS LIKE PARTIES TOO!  Here at Properly Posh Pets, Ali was happy to help me celebrate the 6th “Gotcha Day” for her and her brother, Zhivago (aka “Z”).

Today we’re sharing some of our ideas for how to give a fabulous and magical Meowday Party so you can celebrate birthdays and Gotcha Days for your feline family members.

Cats are sometimes reluctant to share the spotlight, so small, intimate family parties are perfect for Meowday Parties.  In Ali’s world, a Meowday Party calls for lots of glitter and glam, purrfect CatCakes and CatTreats, and pawsome cocktails and cupcakes for the PeopleGuests.

THE PARTY THEME

While planning your party, keep in mind that you will want to take lots of pictures of your cat enjoying the fun and the special CatTreats, so party decorations are important – so your pictures will be social media-ready!  Maybe your cat will be the next social media sensation.

The theme for this party is easy – It’s All About Me, It’s My Meowday.  Or in the case of Ali and Z, who are sister and brother – It’s All About Us, It’s Our Meowday.  I decided to order custom printed napkins to memorialize this theme – so appropriate for Ali’s personality – a lovable, adorable diva kitten.

In our party world, there are several key elements that you need to make a party purrfect:

  • A custom-designed Happy Meowday Banner
  • A special CatCake with pawsome CatCake toppers
  • Special CatTreats
  • Pawty Favor Bags
  • Party Hats
  • PeopleGuest cupcakes and cocktails
  • Party accessories for the well-dressed feline

THE CATCAKE

I decided to create a very special CatCake for this party, and it had to include Z’s favorite – tuna fish – and Ali’s favorite – shrimp.  Our CatCakes are easy to bake in cupcake wrappers and perfect with the shrimp topper and our party cupcake toppers with a cat theme.  I named them “Meowgical CatCakes”, and I expect these will be a regular addition to our cat parties in the future.

THE CAT TREATS

My cats are also super keen on treats, and although their daily treats are store bought, I thought it would be fun to come up with a specially made new treat for this party.  So our newest recipe is Ali’s “Tuna Fish” Treats, which are easy to make and adorable in little fat fish shapes.  We are sharing the recipe with you so you can make them for your own cat.

Ali’s “Tuna Fish” CatTreats

Ingredients

  • 1 6-ounce can albacore tuna in water, undrained
  • 1 ½ cups flour
  • 2 large eggs

Directions

  • Put the tuna and water from the can into a bowl and shred the tuna into small pieces.
  • Add the flour and eggs, mixing well.
  • Put the dough on a floured surface and turn over to flour both sides. Roll out the dough on the floured surface to ¼” thickness.  Cut into shapes using a mini fish treat cutter.
  • Bake at 350° for 8-10 minutes on a greased or non-stick cookie sheet.
  • Cool on a baking rack and store in the refrigerator.
  • Recipe makes 4 dozen cat treats.
  • Break the treats into tiny bites before serving to your cat.

THE PARTY FAVORS

Ali and I always love to design Party Favor bags for all of our parties – my favorite part of the party planning – and we share many of our ideas in Posh Celebrations.  For this party – which is all about Ali & Z – we decided to make extra “Tuna Fish” cat treats, which we wrapped in tiny cellophane bags tied with glitter ribbon for our PeopleGuests to take home to their cats.  We decorated the Party Favor bags with our Cat Mask and Meow cake toppers.  Along with the CatTreats, we included tiny mouse toys and our signature Posh Party Cookies in the shape of a kitten for the PeopleGuests.

Because we know that cats always ignore the cat toys and play with non-toys, we included some of the paper straws that we use to make our cupcake toppers in cute designs and colors.   Ali guarantees that your cat will love playing with the straws.

THE PARTY CUPCAKES

Now that we’ve taken care of the CatCakes and CatTreats, we need to focus on what to serve the PeopleGuests.  We have ideas for the perfect menu for a Kitten Adoption party in our party guidebook, Posh Celebrations, but for this party, we thought we’d focus on the essential ingredients of a good party – cupcakes and cocktails.

Our party cupcakes are easy to make and delicious – angel food cake with whipped cream and lots of ideas for fun garnishes like raspberries and blueberries.  We decorated the cupcakes with our cat-themed cupcake toppers in several colors.  Just make sure you keep an eye on your cat – Ali loves whipped cream!

PARTY HATS, BOWS & BOW TIES

Party clothes may not seem like an essential part of a Meowday Party.  Will your cat wear a bandana?  A bow tie?  A bow?  You never know until you talk to them and explain just how cute they will look in the pictures that you plan to post on Instagram – and then maybe bribe them with the promise of extra shrimp if they cooperate.

My cats draw the line at bandanas, but I have talked them into wearing bows and bow ties, and we’ve created some special designs for our Meowday Parties.  Ali’s favorite design is the pink bow with the tiny pink crowns – she is such a princess.

WHY YOU SHOULD PLAN A MEOWDAY PARTY

As the owner of a pet party company, I have so often heard people complain that there are not enough products to buy for cat lovers and just not enough selection of cute items.  I agree – as a person who has had both cats and dogs my entire life.  I love treating my pets with gifts especially for their birthdays and adoption anniversaries.

That’s why Properly Posh Pets has created our Meowday Party Kit and why we make sure our pet accessories are purrfect designs for cats too.  There are so many pictures of dogs on the Gotcha Day pages on Instagram – and not nearly enough of cats.  So our mission is to make it easier for cat parents to celebrate all of those very special occasions in their cat’s life.

I recently celebrated the 6th anniversary of the memorable day when I welcomed Ali & Z to my world, and I am looking forward to celebrating so many more with them and their canine brother, Beckham.

As long as I make sure there are CatCakes, CatTreats, toys, and lots of ribbon, Ali & Z have both assured me they will come around every year because –

Yes, Cats Like Parties too!
